SHIMEON Biog

The debut album ‘masquerade’ contains thematic compositions written and produced by Manchester theologian and poet, Shimeon. The Hebrew spelling of the name ‘Shimeon’ is pronounced in English, ‘Simon’.
Simon Peter Sutherland (Shimeon) was born during the winter of 1973, in Salford. His mother a Christian singer and his father a lay preacher encouraged Simon to pursue his gifts at an early age within the field of music, faith and entertainment. His atmospheric childhood joyfully embracing Biblical principles and reverberating with the sounds of Johnny Cash, Roger Whittaker, Waylon Jennings, Roy Orbison, John Denver and Bob Dylan. To whom Shimeon tributes, “Without such musicians and songwriters, I would never have been remotely interested in either listening to music or composing music”.
Today Shimeon has employed his craft not primarily as a musician, songwriter, poet and certified artist but as a theologian. After following in the footsteps of St Paul through the Mediterranean to Macedonia, Asia Minor, Cyprus and Malta, Shimeon’s God given faith expounded in depth and works. In 2007 he was awarded a ‘Bachelor of Theology’ degree and in February 2008 Shimeon produced the recorded album of compositions you hear today.
Shimeon is an honest craftsman and a lover of truth, Jesus, honesty and the dignity that lies beneath integrity. His composition cries out for the goodness in the reformed man, the desired honesty and plain truth so painfully to the point. Somewhere beneath the integrity of words and composition you know that every last syllable is steeped in sincerity.
